Our Definitions

Accessibility

Ensuring everyone, regardless of ability, can equally participate.

Inclusion

Fostering a welcoming environment where individuals and families, regardless of race, culture, religion, or identity, feel respected and empowered to fully participate.

Accessibility means removing barriers and providing accommodations so that everyone has access regardless of physical, cognitive, cultural, or other abilities, while inclusion ensures the safety, comfort, and full integration of all identities in ways that are comfortable and empowering for each individual. These complementary values ensure everyone, regardless of background or ability, can connect, learn, and grow together through shared and diverse experiences at Ithaca Pride Alliance events.

The Ithaca Pride Alliance is committed to hosting accessible events and creating accessible materials as part of our overall commitment to supporting an inclusive LGBTQ+ community.

Our guidelines use national standards such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), as well as community-informed practices such as providing low-stimulation access hours for neurodivergent individuals to help create materials & events that meet the needs of our community

Our Guidelines

Your voice is needed to shape this work.

Ithaca Pride Alliance is a 100% volunteer organization. Help make a difference in your community by joining or leading an IPA Accessibility & Inclusion Working Group. This group would work to improve standards and guidelines for community partners and set goals for accessibility education, inclusive policies, and overall access for events like Pride and year-round. IPA envisions a working group in this area would meet 1-2x per month throughout the year to help improve guidelines, support, event logistics, and more for our programs & key events throughout the year. If interested, please provide details in the comments section of the volunteer application form.
